30. Bargaining, Parts 1 & 2
Taf: I know we both rate this a little lower than we might, because of intense sadness and claustrophobia, but it’s a pretty brilliant season opener — what a hook when you’ve just seen Buffy sacrifice herself at the end of season 5.
Waffles:Really great episodes, though I would remind our readers briefly of the, um, you know… evil gang of biker vamps. But no episode’s perfect. (Ed. note: Some episodes are perfect.)
Taf:I guess I’m more willing than you to overlook the biker vamps.
29. Band Candy
Waffles:Band Candy is a perfect episode. Also Giles TOTALLY BANGS BUFFY’S MOM.
Taf:I cannot add anything to that analysis.
28. Something Blue
Taf: Do you remember when the idea of Spike and Buffy together seemed comical and outlandish?
Waffles: Giles does. Those were simpler times.
Taf: Simpler, incredibly funny times.
27. Real Me
Waffles: So, for some reason (that reason being that she can be incredibly annoying) I hated Dawn the first 2 or 3 times I watched Buffy. But now I kind of love her and let me just say, gosh, what a great introduction!
Taf: Dawn has grown on me a lot over the years, too. I’ve always loved this episode though—I love that the show followed up the shocker of “Buffy has a mysterious new sister” at the end of “Buffy vs. Dracula” with an episode that refused to explain anything, just threw you headfirst into Dawn’s perspective. Really well-written, well-conceived episode.
Taf: I’ve always had a soft spot for dream episodes (note: not “It was all just a dream!” episodes; those are terrible), and this one is a perfect blend of surrealism, humor, and actual thematic set-up for Buffy’s character arc in season 5.
Waffles: Does anyone else suddenly want some cheese?
